Our School

Welcome to Astbury St Mary’s Church of England Primary School

New school, renewed vision

The aim of Astbury St. Mary’s is to foster the intellectual, creative, spiritual and physical development of each pupil enabling them to develop their potential within an inclusive environment.

New school, renewed vision

On 1st February, Astbury St Mary’s CE Primary School joined the Chester Diocesan Academies Trust (CDAT) Family. As a church school, Astbury St Mary’s has already been working closely with CDAT schools and were delighted to officially convert into the Trust at the start of February. The collaboration between CDAT schools will provide great opportunities for staff and children to come together. Staff will share good practice across the Trust  to impact teaching and learning and children will have access to wider curricular and extra curricular activities. The shared Christian values across the Trust closely match the values of the school and the CDAT Board are delighted to welcome Astbury St Mary’s into the Trust and look forward to working with Pip Worswick, the headteacher, and all of the staff, governors and children.

This  new exciting chapter opens in my journey with Astbury School. A journey that began twenty-one years ago when I started teaching in the infant class. Since that very first day, my heart has been drawn to serving the children, families and community who are the life of the school. Upon my appointment as Head teacher, in January 2016, I started to build a strong governing team to challenge and support the school in its actions and developed leadership across all levels of the school. This brought renewed vision and strategic direction to set the pathway to planning for excellence and my staff embarked on a rigorous and enriching training plan, giving them the tools that they needed to deliver outstanding teaching in a nurturing environment.

School aims

The aim of Astbury St. Mary’s Church of England Primary School is to foster the intellectual, creative, spiritual and physical development of each pupil enabling them to develop their full potential within an inclusive environment.

We want:

  • To develop self-confident, self-motivated and enterprising children who are capable of applying their knowledge, skills and understanding for the benefit of themselves and others both now and for the future.
  • To ensure excellence in teaching and learning through a broad and balanced curriculum.
  • To foster a concept of real partnership. We believe that everyone has a very important part to play in our family, our community, whether child, parent, staff member, governor or friend and that this part must be respected and supported.
  • To provide an enriched quality learning environment.
  • To make Astbury St. Mary’s School a place where children and staff can enjoy their lives now and where it is safe to learn from mistakes and express individual ideas.
  • To encourage a Christian way of living inside and outside school.
  • To enable all staff to develop their full professional potential.

Astbury’s ethos

Astbury St Mary’s aim is to create a Christian environment providing a broad education and so aiding the development of children, teachers, parents and the local community. The school strives to promote quality and endeavours to build the foundations of a good academic, social and Christian education.

The school nurtures the characters and personalities of its children and helps them to mature. It envelops the social, academic and Christian skills required to assist in their growth, creating a favourable environment for the children to develop a love of reading and literature and increase their skills in mathematics, sciences and the arts. The school welcomes all the latest technologies and strives to include them wherever possible.

We want our children to receive a balanced view of the world in which we live and be prepared for the next stage of their education.
